Peaceful funeral for murdered Canadian editor

There was tight security in the Canadian city of Vancouver at the funeral of the outspoken editor of North America's largest Punjabi newspaper.

The editor, Tara Singh Hayer, was shot last week after receiving death threats over his newspaper's frequent calls for an end to factional violence that is dividing Canada's Sikh community.

The funeral passed off peacefully.

But a BBC correspondent in Vancouver says similar gatherings in recent months have ended in violent clashes between moderate and orthodox Sikh factions.

The police say they have no suspect so far in the case.
