Kenyan banking crisis

A report published by the Kenyan central bank lists the President's son, Raymond Moi, and a senior cabinet minister, Nicholas Biwott, among debtors who owe large sums to troubled banks.

Several Kenyan banks have failed recently and earlier this month the government injected more than thirty million dollars into one of the largest banks following panic withdrawals.

Correspondents say there are suggestions that the level of bad debt carried by the banks has caused the turmoil in the financial sector.
