Leading Indian diplomat dies


One of the most prominent Indian diplomats of the post-Independence era, Parameshwar Narain Haksar, has died in Delhi, aged eighty-five.

Mr Haqsar had an illustrious career, serving as a diplomat and administrator and principal secretary to the late prime minister, Indira Gandhi.

In 1972, he played a key role in negotiating the Shimla Accord between India and Pakistan.
