Reports from Turkey say at least seventeen soldiers died when their helicopter crashed near the city of Hakkari, in the south east of the country.

The semi-official news agency, Anatolia, said the aircraft was on a mission at the time of the accident, but no immediate cause of the crash was given.

It happened in a region where Kurdish rebels have been fighting for autonomy for fourteen years.
