Dons fans turn on Miller

Aberdeen 0-3 Dundee United

Up to 300 fans chanted "Miller must go" after watching their team crash to another humiliating defeat at Pittodrie.

Boss Alex Miller responded: "Poor defending cost us the game - it was bread and butter stuff but at the present time we don't have a settled back row.

"We need a few more players. The average number of experienced players in Scotland today is about 18 and we have only 14.

"Yes, the team is inconsistent and at the end of the day we have to look towards where we are going and we have to start winning games to win the fans back."

"I have been here a year but I have not had the finance that's needed to restructure the team.

"I could understand the fans directing their anger at me as they are not going to listen to hard luck stories.

"They want to see players winning and scoring goals and we need a few more new faces to make that happen.

After just one win in the last 16 matches, the Dons are now level on points with bottom club Dunfermline.

While Miller was answering the boo-boys, Dundee Utd boss Paul Sturrock was smiling.

Aberdeen, who last week signed Nigel Pepper after parting with Craig Hignett, were rarely in the match and fell behind after 17 minutes when Kjell Olofsson slotted home the opening goal after collecting a Lars Zetterlund pass.

Ex-Don Joe Miller replaced the injured Alex Mathie in 49 minutes and with his second touch of the ball put United 2-0 ahead when he latched onto an Olofsson pass before rounding Dons keeper Jim Leighton and poking the ball in the empty net.

Goal number three soon followed with Olofsson again involved. The Swede ran to the by-line before crossing for Craig Easton who scored easily past Leighton from six yards.

Teams:

Aberdeen: Leighton, Perry, Whyte, Pepper, Smith, Jess, Newell, Kiriakov, Dow, Rowson, Winters. Subs: Inglis, Stillie, Gillies, Buchan, Hart.

Dundee Utd: Combe, Malpas, Patterson, Olofsson, Zetterlund, Dolan, Easton, Mathie, Dodds, De Vos, Pascual. Subs: Dykstra, Miller, Thompson, Skoldmark, Paterson.

Referee: J Rowbotham (Kirkcaldy)
