Police shoot dead Iranian deserter on rampage

The official Iranian news agency, IRNA, has reported that a military deserter who shot dead fourteen people and injured eleven others in an indiscriminate shooting spree in the capital, Tehran, has himself been shot dead by the police.

IRNA said the man who it named as Siavosh Rahmani Aqdamhad fled from an air-force barracks several days ago with a gun and ammunition.

His shooting spree came after he hijacked a lorry.

The authorities said it was an act of mania.
