The Australian Defence Minister, John Moore, has expressed support for Indonesian moves towards democracy, but also raised concerns about human rights in the annexed territory of East Timor.

He was speaking in Jakarta after meeting President Habibie.

After earlier talks with the Indonesian Defence Minister, General Wiranto, Mr Moore said Australia would encourage the Indonesian armed forces towards new concepts of civil-military relations.
