Separatists hit pipeline in Assam

Police in the north-eastern Indian state of Assam say suspected rebels have blown up an oil pipeline, cutting off supplies to the rest of the country.

Reports say engineers are working to repair the pipeline which is owned by the state-run Indian Oil Corporation.

The incident comes a day after gunmen killed five soldiers in an attack on another pipeline in Assam.

No group has said it carried out the latest attack, but police say they suspect the involvement of the outlawed separatist organisation, the United Liberation Front of Assam.
