Tajik evidence of Uzbek involvement in rebellion

Tajikistan says it has new evidence to prove that the recent rebellion in the north of the country was launched from Uzbekistan.

Prisoners captured during the government operation to put down the revolt have told journalists they received military training in the neighbouring country.

The prisoners said they had also been based in Afghanistan with local ethnic Uzbek forces.

Uzbekistan has denied involvement in the fighting, but the BBC Central Asia correspondent says this is the most serious breach in relations between Uzbekistan and Tajikistan for several years.

More than one hundred government troops died and several hundred people were injured in the rebellion led by a former commander of Tajik government forces.
