Employers and trade unions in Honduras have agreed to freeze the prices on seventeen basic food items and to keep the national minimum wage at the same level for six months.

The measures were agreed to in an attempt to help economic reconstruction after Hurricane Mitch caused an estimated three billion dollars' worth of damage in Honduras.

The national Congress also decided to cancel three of the eleven national days of holiday in the coming year.
