A prominent human rights official in Britain has urged the Indian government to accept foreign mediation to resolve the issue of Kashmir.
Lord Avebury, who's deputy chairman of the parliamentary human rights committee, made the remark at the end of a two-day visit in Kashmir, during which he's estimated to have talked to about one-thousand people.
He was one of the few human rights campaigners allowed in the region in the past ten years.
The Indian government rejects foreign intervention to resolve its dispute with Pakistan over Kashmir, and a BBC correspondent says its decision to authorise Lord Avebury's trip is significant.
