Colombian official to meet rebels

The Colombian President, Andres Pastrana, has confirmed he is still sending a representative to a meeting scheduled today with leaders of the rebel Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia.

Leaders of the rebels known as the FARC have again said they will suspend peace talks with the government unless it withdraws its remaining one-hundred soldiers from a region controlled by the guerrillas.

But Mr Pastana said the soldiers, are carrying out administrative duties only and stressed his government is still committed to peace.
