Friday, November 27, 1998 Published at 07:31 GMT UK Second body dug up ![]() Birch Hill hospital is at the centre of an inquiry into patient deaths A second body has been exhumed by police investigating a nurse accused of putting lives at risk. The body of the former woman patient at Birch Hill Hospital in Rochdale, Greater Manchester, was removed from a grave in Rochdale Cemetery in darkness. Neil Hartley, 53, who has worked at the hospital for more than 30 years, has been charged with six offences of endangering lives by administering noxious substances. Two months ago the body of a 69-year-old man who had been a patient at the hospital was exhumed for forensic examination. He has been suspended from his post since June while police have investigated the allegations and have also interviewed him over claims of indecency involving patients. |
