Dons snap up Pepper

Nigel Pepper in action for Bradford against QPR

Aberdeen manager Alex Miller has spent some of the money raised by the sale of Craig Hignett by paying Bradford City £300,000 for midfielder Nigel Pepper.

The 30-year-old will go straight into the Dons squad for Saturday's home game against Dundee.

"After losing Hignett it was vital to bring in a player who can play in a similar role. Nigel has a lot of attacking qualities and will get goals," said Miller.

"He made it clear he was delighted to come to Aberdeen and I am sure the fans will like what they see."

Pepper is expected to be the first of several new faces to arrive at Pittodrie following Hignett's £800,000 transfer to Barnsley.

"I think of myself as a winner and will continue to give my all to Aberdeen," the Yorkshireman said.

Hignett asked for a move so he could be nearer to his children and has agreed a two and a half year contract with Barnsley, who are managed by former Middlesbrough teammate John Hendrie.

The Yorkshire club initially offered £500,000 plus winger Martin Bullock, but the latter refused to move to Scotland.

Aberdeen's transfer-listed defender John Inglis has been linked with a £150,000 move to Dunfermline.
