A prominent Afghan academic, writer and poet, Sidiqullah Rishteen, has died in the Pakistani city of Peshawar at the age of seventy-nine.

Mr Rishteen wrote widely on history, literature and the Pashto language.

He will be buried near his family home in Afghanistan tomorrow.
