Dissident clergyman released in Iran

A religious court in Iran has given a suspended prison sentence to one of the country's prominent dissident clergymen, Mohsen Saiedzadeh.

He was arrested in June, but charges against him were never made public.

Mr Saiedzadeh's supporters and some human rights groups say the main reason for his arrest was his liberal views on family laws and women's rights.

His release has not yet been officially announced.

Correspondents say the authorities were under pressure from human rights groups to suspend the prison term.
