New Ferri for Merseyside

Houllier - looking to strengthen his squad

Jean-Michel Ferri could become Gerard Houllier's first signing since becoming Liverpool boss.

Houllier has made an approach for his fellow Frenchman to Turkish club Istanbulspor, who value Ferri at around £1.7m.

The 29-year-old defensive midfielder, who has five international caps, will not be available for Sunday's game against Blackburn because he is carrying a slight injury.

"He's a very experienced player and will be a valuable member of the squad when he is back to full fitness," said Houllier, who took sole charge at Anfield when joint manager Roy Evans left the club.
