The nine members of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations are meeting in Hanoi to discuss ways of protecting their young people from drugs.

In a paper prepared for the conference, the Vietnamese government says that abuse among its youth is increasing.

The report estimates that seventy percent of the country's one-hundred-thousand addicts are under thirty.

The meeting called for an improved exchange of information among ASEAN members and the speeding up of preventative work.
