Peruvians strike over Ecuador peace accord

Thousands of Peruvians in the town of Iquitos near the border with Ecuador are taking part in a strike and street demonstrations in protest over the peace accord signed between the two countries last month.

The action was called by politicians who fear the agreement, which settles a disputed section of their shared border in a remote part of the Amazonian forest, will threaten the Peruvian sovereignty of the area.

Last month five people died in Peru during a wave of protests following the peace agreement.
