Security forces in the Democratic Republic of Congo have arrested a prominent businessman, Bemba Saolona, in connection with the rebellion against President Laurent Kabila.

Mr Saolona is the father of Jean-Pierre Bemba, who recently formed a new rebel faction to try to topple Mr Kabila's government -- the Congolese Liberation Movement.

A Congolese security official told the BBC that Mr Saolona was being questionned about whether he had any links with the new rebel faction.

Mr Saolona has publicly criticised his son's rebellion.
