The Shell oil company says it has begun to dismantle the controversial North Sea oil storage structure, Brent Spar.
An operation to dump the huge structure at the bottom of the North Atlantic three years ago was abandoned after a sustained campaign by environmental protestors.
Brent Spar will now be broken into five sections for re-use, in an operation costing more than twice the cost of dumping it.
