UN mission in Afghanistan

A United Nations team has completed a two day visit to Afghanistan to assess humanitarian needs in the central province of Bamiyan, which fell to the Taliban in September.

It was the first mission of its kind since the United Nations withdrew its staff from Afghanistan in August after an Italian military observer was shot dead in Kabul.

The UN says international staff will not return to Afghanistan on a permanent basis until the Taleban complies fully with a security agreement reached last month.
