Smillie and Skinner win backing for backsides

Smillie: Winning rear for Home Front presenter

BBC presenter Carol Smillie and comedian Frank Skinner are in the hot seat after being named top of the bottoms in a public poll.

The pair have been named as winners in the annual Rear Of The Year Award - awarded to the male and female celebrities picked for having the shapeliest bottoms.

The winners, chosen by the public from a shortlist of celebrities, collected their awards at a ceremony in a London hotel.

Successful stars traditionally pose in a pair of jeans and point their prize-winning assets towards photographers.

Changing Rooms presenter Carol Smillie had a successful career as a model before making her big break as a hostess on TV's Wheel Of Fortune.

Stand-up comic Frank Skinner has had plenty of exposure during this year after presenting live editions of Fantasy World Cup Live throughout France '98 and scoring a number one single with Three Lions '98.

The Rear of the Year competition was first won by Barbara Windsor in 1976.

Last year, Melinda Messenger was named Top of the Bots. The model-turned-TV presenter admitted she was surprised to have won the prize for her behind, saying she thought she was better known for her "other assets".

Other winners include The Good Life's Felicity Kendal, Marina Mowatt, daughter of Sir Angus Ogilvy and Princess Alexandra, who is 27th in line to the throne, Suzy Quatro, Lulu and TV personality Michael Barrymore.
