Wednesday, November 25, 1998 Published at 07:04 GMT Business: The Company File Missiles deal to create thousands of UK jobs ![]() The contract is expected to create thousands of jobs in the UK A joint British Aerospace venture is expected to create thousands of jobs in the UK with a major contract to provide air-to-ground missiles to the United Arab Emirates. Anglo-French joint venture Matra BAe Dynamics will supply Mica air-to-air missiles and Black Shaheen air-to-ground missiles, estimated at £1bn. Matra BAe Dynamics is a joint venture between the French group Lagardere and aviation manufacturer British Aerospace. A spokesman for BAe said: "This is clearly excellent business for the MBD with an eye to future exports and at the same time very good news for BAe as one of the two companies. Clearly the contract will help to secure thousands of jobs across BAe." The Black Shaheen missiles were developed using experience gained in the Gulf War which proved the need for long range, high impact missiles. The electronics contract is for jamming radars and other warfare equipment. |
