France and Italy are to set up a joint panel of experts to regulate economic relations between the two countries.
The Italian prime minister, Massimo d'Alema, announced the establishment of the commission after a meeting in Paris, with the French prime minister Lionel Jospin.
Mr d'Alema said that the two countries would establish a form of very close collaboration and co-operation, including at technical level.
