Lee Kwan-yew surprised by Anwar case

The senior minister of Singapore, Lee Kuan Yew, has talked of his surprise at the arrest of the former Malaysian deputy premier, Anwar Ibrahim.

Mr Lee told the BBC that he'd initially been a little unhappy that Mr Anwar was arrested under Malaysia's Internal Security Act instead of the normal criminal code.

He said he hoped Mr Anwar's trial would restore public confidence in the judicial system.

Mr Anwar's trial on charges of sodomy and corruption resumed this week after a break during the Asia Pacific economic summit.
