AIDS dramatic rise in AFRICA

The United Nation's latest report on AIDS says sub-Saharan Africa continues to be the world's worst affected region, accounting for more than eighty per cent of all deaths from the disease this year.

The UN report said poverty, conflict and migration were major factors contributing to the spread of the HIV virus.

It said children were particularly badly affected, either by the disease or through the loss of their parents who had died of AIDS.

The report however says the rate of increase in HIV has dropped in places like Uganda and Tanzania through effective public information campaigns.
