Tuesday, November 24, 1998 Published at 16:59 GMT UK Hunger striker in hospital ![]() Barry Horne: An "urban terrorist", a judge said A hunger-striking jailed animal rights campaigner has been moved to a hospital.
Horne, 46, was taken from Full Sutton Prison in York to the city's District Hospital on Tuesday as concern over his condition heightened.
A Prison Service spokesman said: "His health situation is giving us serious cause for concern. He's obviously very weak." The decision to move him was taken on the advice of a hospital consultant who has been supervising his condition. Horne is protesting at the continuing use of animals in medical experiments and the government's failure to set up a Royal Commission on the issue. Last week three fellow animal rights campaigner staged a protest outside Home Secretary Jack Straw's Oxfordhire house, in support of Horne. One person was arrested. |
