COLOMBIA HELPS PAKISTAN FIGHT CRIME

Two Colombian officials have arrived in Pakistan to advise the authorities on measures to combat worsening violence in the city of Karachi.

The Colombian officials, who are from the national High Commission for Peace, said that Karachi shared many similarities with Colombian cities.

The murder rate in the Colombian capital, Bogota, has more than halved in the past four years, through a strategy based on the inclusion of marginalised social groups in the political process.

The Pakistani authorities have tried to curb growing lawlessness in Karachi by imposing security measures such as governor's rule and setting up military courts.
