Tuesday, November 24, 1998 Published at 11:05 GMT World: Americas UN says Rwandan rebels are drug-smugglers A report by a United Nations commission says Rwandan rebels have been financing their operations in central Africa through drug dealing. It alleges that the rebels have been smuggling drugs from India to South Africa, and trading in other narcotics from South America. The report says the rebels, who were heavily involved in the Rwandan genocide four years ago, had now become a significant force in support of President Kabila of the Democratic Republic of Congo.
