Tuesday, November 24, 1998 Published at 10:56 GMT UK Fairground attraction breaks down An investigation has begun after 32 people on a fairground ride in Wales were left stranded in mid-air for nearly an hour. The machine called Ride of Your Life stalled at about 10.30pm on Monday. Fire crews were called to the fairground in Aberwystwth to rescue the riders, some of whom were hanging upside down. They were helped down by ladder after 45 minutes. Seven people were taken to hospital to be treated for shock. The Health and Safety Executive is examining the ride to discover why the fault occurred. An HSE spokeswoman said the fairground, operated by a Cheshire-based business, was properly licensed. "We believe there was some sort of hydraulic failure on the equipment, but engineers will be carrying out more checks", she added.
