The president of Costa Rica, Miguel Angel Rodriguez, has called for the United States to set up free trade agreements with the Central American countries hit by Hurricane Mitch.

In an article in Tuesday's Washington Post newspaper, the Costa Rican president argues that a free trade agreement pact similiar to the one linking the united States, Mexico and Canada, would help bring investment to the region and boost reconstruction after the natural disaster which has devastated the Central American economies.
