The trial has begun in France of eight suspected members of Algeria's Islamic Salvation Front, or FIS.

The eight are accused of being part of a large network smuggling arms and false documents to militants fighting the Algerian authorities.

It's thought the network also has members in Belgium, Germany, Britain, Holland and Switzerland.

If convicted, the eight face up to ten years in prison.
