Stevenage through after replay

Borough boss Paul Fairclough led last season's FA Cup run

Stevenage 2-0 Runcorn

David Oates reports on Stevenage's victory (Radio 5 Live)
Last season's FA Cup heroes Stevenage Borough clinched a second-round trip to Lincoln City after beating Runcorn 2-0 in a replay on Monday.

Second-half goals from Michael Love and Carl Alford proved enough to take the Conference side through at Broadhall Way.

Borough, who took eventual finalists Newcastle to a replay in last season's FA Cup, had to be patient before finally shrugging off a stubborn Runcorn side who came into this game with an unbeaten away record in the Unibond League.

A frustrating first half for the home side was soon forgotten in the 48th minute when Stevenage opened the scoring.

It was an untidy effort that broke the deadlock, Steve Berry's cross being dropped by Runcorn keeper Mark Morris before the ball was forced home by Love.

Two minutes later Runcorn's Liam Watson was denied twice by Stevenage keeper Chris Taylor, but that proved to be Runcorn's best effort.

Stevenage's victory was secured by a second goal 16 minutes from time, Berry finding Robert Kean on the far side and his cross was headed home by Alford.
