About two thousand opposition supporters came onto the streets of the Albanian capital, Tirana, today Monday in response to a call by the opposition leader, Sali Berisha, to protest over alleged "manipulations" of the results of Sunday's referendum on a new constitution.
No official results have yet been announced, but the governing Socialist party and election authorities say participation was over fifty percent and the OSCE which monitored the referendum called the turn-out very encouraging.
Mr Berisha, who had called for a boycott, denounced the turn-out figure as fraudulent.
