Monday, November 23, 1998 Published at 17:23 GMT World: Africa American Embassy in Monrovia resumes operations The American embassy in the Liberian capital, Monrovia, has resumed normal operations, two months after it scaled down its diplomatic activities following a gunbattle outside the embassy in September. The US charge d'affaires in Liberia, Donald Petterson, told the BBC his government was satisfied with an apology from the Liberian government over the shooting incident. Government soldiers shot at the former faction leader, Roosevelt Johnson, and his supporters as they tried to take refuge in the embassy.
