The military leader of the rebel forces in Democratic Republic of Congo, Jean-Pierre Ondekane, escaped unhurt when his aircraft caught fire while talking off from an airport in the east of the country.
Reports say that the plane was taking off from Goma on a flight to Kisangani when it burst a tyre and skidded off the runway.
There was a small fire, but all the passengers were able to leave the plane safely.
