Protest at Throckmorton, Worcestershire
Asylum
The battle lines are drawn in what could be one of the country's most acrimonious planning disputes. At stake is the centrepiece of the government's reform of our immigration system - a series of centres where asylum seekers can be held while awaiting a decision on their right to stay in Britain. Needless to say the location of these sites is highly contentious and today the Home Office announced it was contesting the rejection of two such centres by councils in Nottinghamshire and Oxford.

IVF
Three letters that have been dominating the headlines over the past few weeks for different reasons. Columnist Christina Odone gives Newsnight her perspective on this incredible technology which can be seen either as a medical miracle or an ethical and social minefield. To guide us through it live we have Ruth Deetch, recently retired as chair of the Human Fertilisation and Embryology Authority, and Dr Gillian Lockwood of the Midlands Fertility Centre.

Newsnight can be seen on BBC Two at 2230 BST, or in real video, either live or on demand, by clicking on the latest programme button.
