Organised crime in Mexico
Mexico City
Mexico City where kidnapping is on the increase
In July 2000 Eduardo Gallo's daughter Paola and seven of her friends went for a weekend away in Marelos, about half an hour outside Mexico City.

In the middle of the night five men dressed in black broke into the house, and started questioning them about who their fathers were and what they did.

They kidnapped Paola and Eduardo Gallo never saw her again.

On the same day he paid the agreed ransom money of $20,000, the body of Paola and three of her captors were discovered.

The police did not launch an investigation at the time.

Gallo has uncovered evidence himself which shows gangs are kidnapping one person every month.

It's a growth industry in Mexico.

Eduardo Gallo talks to Tim Sebastian about why he believes that the President of Mexico, Vicente Fox and his government have no political will to tackle organised crime.

The interview can be watched in full on Monday 12 August on BBC World and BBC News 24 at the following times:

BBC News 24 (times shown in BST) 0430, repeated 2230

BBC World (times shown in GMT) 0330, repeated 0830, 1130, 1530, 1830, 2330

HARDtalk with Tim Sebastian is broadcast Mon - Friday on BBC World and BBC News 24
