Winner of five Olympic gold medals Michael Johnson
Winner of five Olympic gold medals Michael Johnson
In a Sportstalk special interview on 2 August Michael Johnson, Olympic gold medallist and world record holder talks to Garry Richardson.

Michael Johnson is one of the greatest athletes of the modern era.

During his career he won five Olympic gold medals and nine world titles.

He set six world records, including a barely believable 19.32 for 200 metres.

Johnson's dominance over the 200 and 400m was supreme.

Roger Black, the British former 400m runner, said in his racing days, "Lets face it, the rest of us are just running for second."

Michael Johnson retired from competitive running last year.

In a Sportstalk Special, he talks to Garry Richardson about why despite the worldwide appeal of athletics in his native America athletics rates way below the appeal of football and basketball.

The interview can be watched in full on Friday 2 August on BBC World and BBC News 24 at the following times:

BBC News 24 (times shown in BST) 0430, repeated 2230

BBC World (times shown in GMT) 0330, repeated 0830, 1130, 1530, 1830, 2330
