Police officer cleared of false claim
A police officer has been acquitted of trying to make a bogus insurance claim after a burglary at her home.
Leeds Crown Court heard PC Victoria Lacy, 24, based at Scarborough police station, claimed a set of golf clubs was stolen from her garage. The prosecution alleged she asked a colleague for a receipt for the clubs to make a false claim. But the jury accepted Miss Lacy asked the colleague to pay on a credit card, and then reimbursed him. 'Not dishonest' The case centred on a claim of £154 from the insurance firm Legal and General. Miss Lacy, of Curlew Drive, Scarborough, told the court she had been muddled, but not dishonest. She denied one charge of attempting to obtain property by deception on 19 July last year. The jury of seven men and five women found Miss Lacy not guilty after a three-day trial.
