Political profile

Meg Munn was elected in 2001 to the safe Labour safe seat of Sheffield Heeley at her first attempt.

The daughter of a lord mayor of Sheffield, she has her own background in electoral politics as a former member of Nottingham council.

She also has a familiarity with the workings of local and national government as a long serving social worker.

Latterly she worked as head of children's services for York Council.

Her political interests are centred around social welfare issues - she is a leading member of both the Co-operative Party and the Christian Socialist movement.

She is particularly interested in workers' rights and welfare at work.
