Boy drowned in police pool tragedy
BBC map locating Hendon
A boy who was pulled unconscious out of a swimming pool at Hendon Police Training School on Tuesday had drowned, a post mortem examination has found.

The 14-year-old was pronounced dead at hospital on Tuesday after he and another boy were found unconscious in the pool.

The post mortem examination at Finchley Mortuary on Wednesday established the cause of death as drowning.

An inquest will be opened on Friday at Hornsey Coroner's Court.

Critically ill

The other boy, 15, is critically ill at the Great Ormond Street Hospital in London.

Both boys were taking part in a summer holiday activity scheme run jointly by police and the London Borough of Barnet council.

The accident is being investigated by police officers from the Internal Investigation Command under the supervision of the Police Complaints Authority.

The Health and Safety Executive has also been notified.
