Care worker on cruelty charges
Gloucestershire Constabulary logo
The charges against the woman date back to 1969
A woman has been charged with cruelty against pupils at a school for children in care.

The 54-year-old former care home worker will appear before Gloucester magistrates on 8 August.

She is accused of 17 counts of cruelty against pupils at the Poplars resettlement unit in Broadoak, Gloucestershire between 1969 and 1983.

The school catered for boys aged between 10 and 17 from across the country who had been put in local authority care.

It is believed that more than 800 boys were placed there in total.
