Teenager shot during argument
Police crime tape
The victim was not involved in the argument
A teenager has been shot after being caught in the middle of an argument in the street.

The 16-year-old was hit in the shoulder as he was standing with friends in Wolverhampton on Monday.

The incident happened in Inckerman Street in the Heath Town area of the city between 2200 BST and 2230 BST.

The argument is believed to have involved a group of five men, one of whom was armed.

Witness appeal

A police spokeswoman said: "Four men got out and began arguing with a man who was already in the street," a spokeswoman said.

She said that during the argument, a man produced the gun that was fired, hitting the teenager.

The 16-year-old, from the city, is being treated in hospital but his injuries are not thought to be life threatening.

The gunman was described as a black with long dreadlocks.

Police are appealing for witnesses.

Superintendent Paddy Mulligan, from Wolverhampton east operational command unit, said: "Gun crime is ever-present in Wolverhampton and without the help of the local community we will never get rid of it."
