Kerry Pollard

Date of birth

27 April 1944

Political profile

Kerry Pollard was first elected to the Commons in 1997 at his second attempt, having come from third place in 1992.

He maintains a high local profile and has made a mark in the Commons by being one of the more rebellious MPs among Labour's recent intakes.

He opposed the NATO actions in Kosovo, but his most consistent aberrations from the party Whips are over benefits - he has voted on several occasions against cuts on benefits.

A former housing association director, he is interested in issues of social justice and social inclusion.

He chairs the all-party small business group.

A Christian socialist, he takes a conservative line on moral issues; he is a member of the all-party pro-life group and was one of the handful of Labour MPs to oppose the equalisation of the age of consent.
