David Borrow

Date of birth

2 August 1952

Political profile

David Borrow entered Parliament in 1997 after a tumultuous career in local government.

As a centre-right moderniser, he conducted a long-term power struggle against the hard left of the Labour party on Preston council.

He was even ousted as council leader, but regained his position a year later.

His career in the Commons has been more sedate; he has been a staunch defender of constituency interests, talking up the Eurofighter, parts of which are made locally.

His other main political passions have been advancing the causes of constitutional reform, including electoral reform and gay rights.
