The seven wonders of Britain: tell us your choice
Tell us your top tourist sites
What's your favourite tourist destination in the UK?
After the damage caused by last year's foot and mouth outbreak, that's exactly the question asked by a new survey out this morning, which hopes to revive the tourism industry.
For adults, the number one spot went, unsurprisingly, to the House of Parliament. Teenagers rate Alton Towers, the London Eye and even Blackpool Tower Breakfast asked what were your favourite tourist attractions. The answers we got were many and varied.
Click here to go straight to our vote section The survey is published by the Yellow Pages and backed by the English Tourist Board. Members of the public were asked to nominate their favourite tourist attraction. The Houses of Parliament and Big Ben are the number one choice for a day's sightseeing.
Wiltshire's ancient monument Stonehenge, came second in the survey of Britain's seven wonders. Third place was shared by Windsor Castle and Cornwall's Eden Project and are described as 'must see' sites. But there are some surprising omissions in our choice for a day out, including Buckingham Palace, Westminster Abbey and Canterbury Cathedral.
However York Minster shared fifth place with Hadrian's Wall and was one of the historic sites nominated - those polled were asked to suggest recognised tourist attractions from a shortlist. In a separate poll of 13 to 17 year olds, Alton Towers came out on top with Parliament and Big Ben relegated to second place. Both surveys asked members of the public to list only monuments, man-made sites or buildings. It is hoped that today's survey will encourage the growth of tourism and comes after the Chancellor of the Exchequer Gordon Brown promised a boost for the industry in his recent review of spending. Mr Brown promised an extra £2m to fund regional tourism - the money will also be used to safeguard free entry into museums.
