Lottery windfall for NI man

Stephen Boyd won £1.5m in Wednesday's draw
A County Londonderry man is celebrating his £1.5m win on the national lottery getting used to his new found fame.

Stephen Boyd, a 35-year-old father of two, saw all six of his numbers come up in last week's midweek lotto draw.

Stephen enjoyed a champagne reception at a hotel in his hometown of Limavady where he described the winning feeling as "fantastic".

"When you buy the ticket you don't think you're going to win it," he said.

Stephen Boyd: "I'll go out to work next week and see what the craic is from there"

"It's a dream. You think of a new house, a car and a good holiday and a few extra wee treats.

Mr Boyd was told of his win when he returned to the newsagents in Limavady on Saturday to buy some sweets.

He was carrying two lottery tickets bought for the previous Wednesday night's draw and asked the sales assistant to check his numbers.

"She told me I had won and I started jumping in the air," he said.

However, there are no plans for the salesman to give up work.

Holiday

"I am only a working-class man. I'll go out to work next week and see what the craic is from there.

"I'll be back to work, maybe not next week but the week after.

Mr Boyd, a soft drinks salesman, said he had promised himself a Mercedes sports car, while his wife could soon be sitting behind the wheel of a brand new utility vehicle.

There are also plans to take his two children on holiday, with Disneyland a strong contender.

Despite no immediate plans to move to a bigger house, Mr Boyd did confess to dreams of having a snooker room and private bar in his home.

And the lucky numbers for Stephen and his family? They were 7, 14, 21, 34, 35 and 43.
