China floods leave 11 dead

Unusually heavy rain in north-western China has caused widespread flooding, killing at least 11 people, and causing thousands of homes to collapse.

The normally dry Xinjiang region usually relies on melting glaciers and snow for its water, and few anti-flood measures have been put in place on the main rivers.

More heavy rain is forecast in the next few days.
